Cancer and Politics

| | Comments (1)

Liberal Democrat MP Patsy Calton died this week at the age of 56 following a "long battle with cancer". Given that we just had a General Election less than a month ago, couldn't the Liberal Democrats have chosen someone slightly more able to fulfil their duty as an MP?

Noble as her efforts may have been to battle against her cancer, her inability to act for her constituents for the current term of parliament should also have been an issue, and she should have withdrawn her candidature and let a more able candidate take over. That would not have been a defeatist attitude, but a pragmatic and selfless one.
