Politics: October 2003 Archives

What does a missing plane and bugging of the EU offices have in common? Both seemingly serious stories that have dropped from the news faster than a turd souffle.

Let's start with the EU Bugging case, it was widely reported (including by this site) on the 19th March 2003 that bugging devices had been found in the EU offices used by several member countries, including France and Germany.

Can I find any references to that story since March? Nope. I've just written a letter to my MEP (European Parliament Member), let's see what he has to say about it.

Moving on to the case of the missing plane. It was reported by the BBC (and others) on the 19th June that a Boeing 727 had been stolen from an airport in Angola.

That's it, nothing since except an article in this months American Reporter. Now it is serious enough than a Boeing Jet was stolen, but especially so after the events of two years ago surely?

I was today forwarded an article on the rising tensions in the middle east, escalating all the more since the USA has decided that is unable to support a resoltuion condeming Israel's trheat to kill Yasser Arafat, yet supports bombing other countries in self defence against suicide bombers... but i digress.

This article makes mention of the fact that no one ever asks what these "training bases" actually are. As the article mentions, do palestinian suicide bombers really need to practice suicide bombing? Surely the death of a brother or a cousin by the Israeli army is all the training they need.

So kids, just what is a terror training camp/base?
