Lately I have been
under the weather
cos the time has come for the
yearly audit.

Calling a type of fish

Mobile 'blogging

In order to placate Pavel, I have decided to try my hand at mobile blogging in order to post with a little more regularity. The time usually spent on the train, morning and evening, usually listening to the radio or reading the paper, could be an ideal time to write articles. We shall see.

The office was having a clear out of old hardware recently, and an item I managed to weasel was an Old Compaq Armada notebook. Originally I envisaged this as a low power alternative to the system acting as a firewall on my adsl line at home, but the lack of PCMCIA support amongst the various packaged "linux" firewall systems scuppered that. [1]. So now have a little laptop for mobile 'blogging.

I do have a much nicer, more up to date (i.e. expensive) Sony Vaio laptop, but I'm not sure I wish to subject that to the knocks and bumps it will receive being stuffed in my backpack.

Now I have this up and running, let me introduce you to some of my fellow passengers, please make you way to the next post.

[1] Yes I could custom build something, but I wanted a box that could be rebuilt in a few minutes by booting off a cdrom, which smoothwall currently does adequately, despite my misgivings about its management.

As those who have been reading this site regularly, (monkeys included) you'll know I took up cycling again about 6 weeks ago. This was motivated partly by a desire to get fitter (and not get out of breath climbing the stairs), and partly to offset the cost of maintaining my car on its daily commute into the city centre.

I was further motivated to join the gym about a month ago after learning that a work colleague had suffered a heart attack. Motivation comes from such suprising quarters sometimes.

Anyway, after finding I could now fit into my size 34 trousers again this week, after spending some considerable time in the land of size 38+, I was intrigued to see just how my unhealthy lifestyle of the last 7 or so years had made a difference to my shape. The results, as you can see are above. One photo from 1995 and one from 2002.

Buying a car was probably the worst thing I ever did weightwise, within 12 months I had put on 42 pounds.

I was hoping to find I would be able to fit into an old pair of size 32 jeans sometime later this year. Imagine my horror last night to discover they were in fact a size 30.

Anyway, enough waffle, back to our regular programming.

Busy

Just letting you know I'm still alive. Been unfeasably busy these last few days. Spent most of today fiddling with the home electrics (always a dodgy choice given my past lack of luck with the beast of 240VAC) and other bits around the house.

Watched ExistenZ for the first time last night, very interesting film (review later) but it had some interesting parallels with The Thirteenth Floor. (main protagonist - Douglas Hall heh heh), which I am about to go watch.

Later folks!

P.S.

Q. What do you call an attractive woman in Finland?
A. A Tourist.
