Humour: March 2004 Archives

Stewed_tea and hamgray reminded me of Brian Johnston's amazing piece of cricket commentary, so after a bit of hunting around we've finally found a copy of that fine minute of broadcasting history.

Brian Johnston - Oh Aggers do stop it!

As a special bonus, we also have the bootleg recording of a very short-tempered Orson Welles having a rant at some recording engineers. Supposedly the inspiration behind one of the "Pinky and the Brain" episodes with his "Yes Always!" exclamation.

Orson Welles - Show me how you can say "in july" and I'll go down on you.

[ Update 30-March-2004 - Hardly a suprise given his sudden retirement, but nevertheless very sad news today, that Alistair Cooke has died at the age of 95. Not much I can add really, but yet another one of those people I remember from my childhood has passed on. Tempus Fugit - Memento Mori ]

[ 2nd Update 30-March-2004 - It would appear I can't spell Alistair - thanks Hamgray ]

It was with some sadness that I read today that the veteran radio host, Alistair Cooke is retiring, following advice from his doctor.

Alistair Cooke has presented "Letter from America" for the last 58 years on BBC Radio 4 and also via the world service.

I'll never forget the broadcast he attempted to do from Central park back in 1957, of which nofear.org has obtained a bootleg copy.

Listen to this rare Alistair Cooke recording here. [in mp3 format]
