I have just discovered that the kid pictured on practically every issue of Mad Magazine is none other than Alfred E. Neuman.
Was I the only person on the planet that didn't know that?
Anyway, as a treat, here is Alfred with his rendition of "It's a Gas"
Alfred E. Neuman - It's a gas mp3

I'm suprised you didn't know that. Wasn't his catchphrase "What me, worry?".
Yes, Doug, you were the ONLY person who didn't know that! :P
You are one culturally deprived guy, Douglas. Gadzooks: Alfred E. Neuman?
oh please. You make it sound like it's a crime! I wonder if the local library keeps backcopies of mad magazine! It was never the easiest magazine to get hold of over here.
Wasn't aware of that - my America-centrism showing through again :)
Yes - definitely the only person who didn't know that. No problem getting MAD when I lived in Manchester - the local newsagent liked it and stocked it.
If it makes you feel better, I didn't know either ;) Who is Alfred E. Neuman? LOL
How so sad, that people don't who Alfred E. Neuman is. Have you guys' been living on another planet, or what? Where have you been for the last 50 years or so? (Not that I'm THAT old)
Thanks for "It's a Gas" - brought back fun memories! My brother had that record!
um, ya, didn't know that. Very interesting, and i love the song!
Yes, Doug, I would say you were the only one! Thanks so much for providing the link to "It's A Gas" You might be interested to know that included inside a monthly issue of MAD - I am guessing maybe sometime in 1960 to 1962, I was a Jr High kid, THAT 33 1/3 recording was FREE inside the mag!! You only had to remove it and place it on your turntable! VOILA! Music! Or WAS it?? I lost my copy years ago and, until today, had never found anyone who even recalled it existed, let alone provide a means to revisit that high brow humor.
Thanks for sharing.

I can't believe you have this song!! A few years ago, I tried to convince my kids that such a song existed. I remember it from probably 30+ years ago. One huge belch in particular ALWAYS made my friends laugh. Very innocent entertainment- today "It's a Gas" would have different sound effects, I'm sure!
I still have this record (33 1/3, single size) the plastic is peeling off, therefore can no longer be played on turntable. But it's a bit of a novelty item, along with stuff like Danny Kaye's DODGERS Song, so it's hard to with small pieces of the past. Thanks for providing the audio link, so that I could re-live my childhood once again. I could never burp that well, but we did learn how to light farts that same summer. I guess that goes with the territory.
