HardwareZone Forums - what's this...

I find it very irritating when people link to images on my site without permission, in effect getting themselves free image hosting.

In a fit of pique last night, when this happened yet again, I substituted the original graphic linked for a new one that hopefully got the point across.

Clever! Can you show us what you did?

I copied the original image to another file with a similar name, then edited all (2)HTML references on the nofear.org site to use the new image.

I then created then new "bandwidth stealing weasel" jpeg image with microsoft paint, trimmed it to size with the wonderful irfanview imageviewer, and copied it over the original image.

If you visited the hardwarezone forums, you'll note the original post no longer displays the image, I think the moderator removed it. He didn't remove it from the follow up post though!

You'll need to check your referrer logs to see this kind of image linking happening, but I don't believe it is possible to do this on journalspace.

Very creative! And Irfanview totally rox! The best image manipulator around (for reasonably simple stuff anyways), and you can't beat the price.

That's very cool.

how very devilish...

Just use a .htaccess file in your images directory to prevent hotlinking.

Thats excellent!
